Prayers and Exercises

The heart of a vocation is a deep relationship with God and so prayer is essential. Firstly, prayer involves raising the mind and heart to God so that one can be enlightened, challenged and connected to the story of the Gospel traced out in the rule of life followed by Salesian religious.

Secondly, because Salesian spirituality is extrovert and involved in ordinary life some practical exercises can help to reveal the way ahead.

This section encourages prayer and practical experience to become inter-twined opening up a Salesian pathway to contemplation in action.

A video reflection The Way of Bread. An invitatin to see your vocation, whatever your state in life, as becoming bread for others. For Salesians this eucharistic dimension of religious life is central to our commitment to being present with the young.

Called through my gifts

Lord, I thank you for the gifts
You have given me, especially for life,
love, family and friends.

Help me to know myself better and to
know my talents, as I pray, study and
decide on my life's work.

Help me to see and understand the path
You open for me.
Help me choose a life's
work that will be in response to
my potential and your love for me.

If I am being invited to follow you as a Salesian,
give me a generous heart
to respond to your challenging call
and the strength to follow you
wherever you lead me.

Strengthen Me O Lord

Loving God, in Baptism you ask me
to act justly, love tenderly, and walk
humbly with you.
Help me to know how to bring justice
and love to a world that is desperately
in need of you and your Gospel values.

Strengthen me with the courage and
generosity to respond to your
invitation to follow the path of the Gospel
traced out in the Salesian way of life.

May my discernment help to serve young people
And awaken your presence in our needy world.

I ask this in the name of Jesus through
the power of the Holy Spirit.
